I bought a house in September 2020. A clean pallet for another 15 years as I’ve recently left my tropical garden in Brisbane and moved to Ipswich.

My #benjiminaficus-midnight gets bloody thrips every summer. #thripssapsucking bastards. I usually spray white oil but now the bees are in danger, I don’t want to kill them. Anything natural. Suggestions??

Look at how glossy, thick and very dark green the healthy leaves are 🤩

What about neem oil I've heard it works with other sap sucking insects

@gauravsh6 it’s been in the same pot for 20 years. I sold my acreage and couldn’t bare to part with it. It really should be in full 🌞 sun but I’m using it as a privacy screen. It’s only 8’ tall.

@cyndi I’m allergic to neem would you believe it! I’m allergic to almost everything. I just pull them off and throw in garbage.

If it is 20 yrs old and 8' height then it is a grown up bonsai tree. Normally trees will have self defence mechanisms which will trigger in case of pest infestation. I also have a 5 yrs old 15 feet height ficus panda tree and have seen Mealbugs on it but usually let tree care of it by itself 😊

@gauravsh6 yes I purposefully did that as they can up root a house. I don’t usually get pests on it. Just picked these few off. It’s more for reference in tags to help ID a pest. I use to own a nursery many years ago. It’s completely root bound. I will one day transplant when I get around to it. Cheers

You do look pretty experienced when you mentioned having it for 20 yrs 😊 ficus can be made in designer shapes if you have it in a pot

@gauravsh6 I had topiary figs coming out my ears when I owned nursery. I couldn’t make them fast enough. People liked the plat one. Could never be bothered with animal shapes or love hearts etc.

@brightcolours I wish people would realise that in the city. Ok on acreage but here you gotta confine to pots.

And people don't: much to their drainage's detriment.

@brightcolours plumbers spend so much time using the snake to remove roots from pipes. That monkey vine at parents place just had to be removed due to blocking.
