I have the same thing, have to trick it into blooming in my climate. We have always called it a Christmas cactus. Are they the same or is their a difference? Mine has red blooms
Thanks have always wondered what that/my plant was. Mine only used to flower in summer. But i too have a couple of flowers too. Trying to say second lot of flowers this year.
@apomwo @dynky I’m in the Southern Hemisphere so my Easter cactus is thanksgiving in nth. And vice versa. Winter here. The winter one I have had spikes.
Thanks for your help, Susannah. I didn’t know how to reply to you. This is not like Facebook, but I will persevere, because it seems like a wonderful community of garden lovers. The app won’t let me post multiple pictures in one postings so I can’t show ‘Before’, ‘During’ & ‘After’ shots.
@lissecornelia either post one after the other or use a photo joining app. Lots of us use the method. Then can post new pic > hash tag anything you want to draw attention to.
Put things in “garden” not individual plants if you like too.

This flower looks like it is a Thanksgiving cactus or Christmas cactus. If I see the leaf correctly, it is a Thanksgiving cactus or schlumbergera truncata. Check out: https://goo.gl/images/o3GGDO
Looks like a thanksgiving cactus! :) Easter cactus flowers are a bit different and their leaves are rounder :) Christmas cactus and thanksgiving cactus compared have slightly different flowers and leaves as well :)
@Breeana_Shenae @lovestogarden I'd never heard of Easter or thanksgiving cactus. Just going on pics here in encyclopaedia . In Australia we call them zygotes. It's autumn here. So would that be your thanksgiving cactus? As it's getting cooler?
I'm from Australia too hehe! Yeah my thanksgiving cactus's are flowering now in late autumn! :) yes we still call them Zygotes here in Australia! I don't know why though. Pretty sure Zygotes is the old name for them? Anyways doesn't matter :)
@Breeana_Shenae maybe a botanical name. I have really prickly ones too that flower in summer.
@lovestogarden thanks mate
Yeah Christmas cactus flower in summer and Easter cactus are early autumn and thanksgiving cactus is around late autumn/winter.. :) hahaha! It gets confusing 😅 well for me anyways !!
I have a photo on my instagram I can try find it for you?!?
@Breeana_Shenae I've had Instagram since inception, when there were 6 filters only but never really got into it. Seemed more for feet or plates of food 😁. I got my name Sussanah as I joined so early.
Yes instagram was a lot of that kinda stuff! There's heaps of gardening instagrams now! And good for identification too! :D
