Seeing some roots! It's finally sat firmly in the soil too, before it was just balanced on top. Yay! #echeveria #hybrid #succulents #indoorplant #smallspace

Any #help would be appreciated! I water roughly once a week but the leaves are going crispy :( the roots are very short and won't bury into the soil #planthelpplease #plantadvice #advice #succulenthelp

Hi @tinyweedrams if it's the lower leaves going crispy that is just what they do as the plant grows and you will end up with a "head " on a little stalk or a little clump depending on the variety. I pick the leaves off with some tweezers when they have gone crispy - quite therapeutic if you have a few plants to do 😂as for the roots as they seem to be ok maybe repot it into a nice gritty compost.

@chiffchap thanks for the reply! Would putting a bit more perlite into the mix work? It's mainly the lower ones on one side but just one leaf on top is dry too

I prefer gravel as perlite is a bit bright and shiny but Yeah it would work as long as is a really free draining mix.

@chiffchap I only have perlite... It's not too whiney, it's from volcanic rocks I think. Thanks for the advice! Xx

No problem I love echeverias, currently mine are sheltering in the greenhouse before being released for their summer holidays in the next few weeks. Perlite is volcanic glass ( geologist by profession) and I've got nothing against per se but it is very white and it always seems to float to the top when I water things !

@chiffchap yeah it's not the most amazing thing but I have limited space and budget 😥 I'll look into different materials to help drainage though... I kinda like the clean white, makes the colours pop! X

No perlite is good for drainage don't break the bank just cos I'm a , let's face it, perlite snob 😳

@chiffchap haha so you should be! We're all snobby about something 😂

Yeah it looks fine. Those roots will grow in time :) It's using up the energy in its leaves to send out the roots.

@Alcurtis93 aaahh great! Succulents are so strange sometimes 😊

I often find it best if they have hardly any roots to place the base in water and let it recover that way but either method will work well :)

@Alcurtis93 it's from this plant https://surrealsucculents.co.uk/shop/echeveria-crystal-maze/

Yours looks like a crested variety. May be wrong. Either that or there's loads of plants in there very tightly packed.

@Alcurtis93 it wasn't in the pot when it arrived so it's just one clump with roots, think you're right about it being crested 😁
