When my granddaughter Rheya told me she planted a seed in this bucket I didn't believe her. She tells lots of stories...It's been set in the garden ignored until I just came across it again, I thought it was just a weed growing! Well it's a weed- #milkweed #greenthumb
#futuregardeners #teachthemyoung That is awesome!
Wonderful!

These are such a deep red! β€
I know you can do it! 😆
Iβm with you @columbiariver Treefrog and @jennlamaye gifted me some milkweed seeds mine are also under my light and nice and warm I hope Iβll see them soon. Doesnβt she make it seem easy .....both of em
@columbiariver when I grew the sunflowers (Reg and Mex) I had a flock of yellow finches that came by everyday and picked at them! Can't wait to see all that you have accomplished! Bet it's amazing!
That is so encouraging, Theresa and Laura! I love to see a little wildlife in my little area. I get so excited. The 🐦 and the 🐝. No pun intended. Lol. @treefrog44. @columbiariver

Isn't that amazing to look at? 😍
Sure is @KariSamuel, I see lots more milkweed plants for baby caterpillars to eat!
So maybe ignore the milkweed seeds that I believe I selected to send you?? Nahhh, plant a little Wisconsin milkweed for them too!
Don't think I could ever have too much milkweed @KariSamuel as well as all the different varieties! Caterpillars eat a ton!

Barely got this #milkweed planted, and already had a #monarch come to lay eggs
Good for you! I have had mine for about a year and a half and see butterflies about, but not a single catterpiller. There's, I do want to ask if you know why my the catterpillers at my parent's garden have started hanging out on other plants besides their milkweed? Last year's they we're all over them. This year they have same plants, but catterpillers are on others.
@lovestogarden the only reason monarchs leave the host plant is to pupate, the only other reason is it was somehow tainted with a pesticide, dogs or cats that are treated for worms or fleas can brush against the plants and taint them, possible over spray or dusting can carry in the air to the plant, even new plants brought in near them, if treated with a pesticide can taint milkweed... other than that it's a mystery?? @cyndi do you know why this is happening?
Thank you so much Theresa and Cyndi. I know my parents have an abundance of wasp that also visit them, but I know spray is not an issue. As for mine, I am still unsure. I will just keep hoping for some caterpillars. @cyndi
Interesting discussion, as I thought I didn't have any special visitors because of new plants. Sigh, another issue, but thanks good to know. @cyndi @lovestogarden

#wildlifewednesday The dreaded #milkweedbug Bad news in the butterfly garden!😨 only on one plant so far...Whew! Hand picked them off and stomped them dead!! Bwwhaahaha! 😈
What kind of damage do these bugs do in the garden???
They are like aphids, they will suck the plant dry! need my plants to feed the monarch caterpillars :)

Love how easy it is to root #milkweed in water! The monarch caterpillars can strip a plant in a week, I cut down the stalks put them in water. Voila more milkweed plants and the original will regrow as well :)
The caterpillars stripped mine bare too!! Naughty little monsters.
Oh, great #tip !
