Cataloguing these planted yesterday 14-09-19. 12 bulbs. #iris #purple #bulb #springflower
These are going to be beautiful 💙🖤💙
@kez001uk I hope so but my last iris bulbs rotted in the ground 🤷♀️
@victorial I had the same happen and the ones that didn’t rot only produced foliage 😐 I find bulbs very fickle 😂 they’ll do as they please 😜
@kez001uk I am discovering that! Lost loads this year but bulbs that have spent years under turf and which I didn’t plant are flourishing nicely
@victorial that’s great! A lot of bulbs do well in the lawn. Just some that need very specific conditions are a pain 🤣
@kez001uk it’s totally trial and error for me. New problem today - two of my bulbs have been dug up and left on the ground. Not damaged but definitely not where I put them 🤷♀️
@victorial oh no 😨 could be cats. I know @ublaszko Urszula has a neighbour cat that is fond of digging her bulbs up 🙈 and I’ve had the same issue this summer with cats digging through my pots 🤬
It could be cats or squirrels or even something else. I sprinkle ground pepper on the top of the soil and that seems to deter my neighbour's cat. Luckily, my cat is garden trained and she doesn't dig up the garden at all 😆 If you're bulbs are rotting the ground must be seriously waterlogged. I garden on clay soil but I add a big bag of compost or mulch on top once a year and that seems to do the trick 😊 The main thing is not to mulch tulips as snails will eat the leaves.
Irises taken 14-03-20
Looks like your irises have been mislabelled. They look like my irises reticulata Harmony and Pixie (probably a bit more like Pixie than Harmony). Definitely not Blue note. 😰
@ublaszko thanks! That’s what the package said 🤷♀️ I’ll take a look at the others. Whatever they are, they’re gorgeous!
💜💜💜 Not that suprising that they were mislabeled. It seems to happen a lot with iris reticulatas.
