Alcea rosea 'Chater's Double Group Yellow'
Hollyhock 'Chater's Double Group Yellow'
Alcea is a group of plants in the Mallow family Malvaceae, native to Asia and Europe. Alcea rosea (previously called Althaea rosea) is commonly known as the Hollyhock and is a species which specifically found naturally in Turkey. It is normally grown best as a deciduous biennial, or a short lived perennial, and has lobed round green leaves with open funnel-shaped flowers carried on tall spikes. They are traditionally part of cottage gardens, however many are susceptible to a fungal disease known as rust, one which can persist if allowed to grow for more than two years. Hollyhocks like a well drained soil but appreciate some organic matter when planting for best results. Through cultivation, many colour forms are now available. 'Chater's Double Group Yellow' has double lemon yellow flowers.
