Turnip 'Purple Top Milan'

Turnips are root vegetables that can be grown to be harvested most of the year, either as golf-ball sized, for eating raw, or tennis-ball sized, for eating cooked - or even for the tops, which can be cooked and eaten as any other green leaf vegetable. 'Snowball' is an early variety of white globes for sowing from early Spring to mid Summer, for harvesting from early Summer to mid Autumn. 'Purple Top Milan' is a heritage variety which has creamy-white slightly flattened globe roots with purple shoulders, and white flesh. Sow from mid Spring to late Summer, for harvesting from mid Summer to late Autumn

Propagating by seed

From Late Winter TO Late Summer

Sow seeds from early Spring until late Summer for harvesting from Summer right through to Winter (depending on the varieties grown - and turnip tops (leaves) can be harvested through Spring. Sow seeds in well-manured soil as soon as the soil is workable. Choose a sunny site, and sow in rows at least 1' apart, with the seeds sown thinly at a depth of 1/2"
