Mimosa pudica
Sensitive Plant
Acacias, or wattles, are shrubs and trees that belong to the pea family. They are evergreen plants grown for their attractive foliage and bright yellow scented blooms. The genus varies in size from small shrubs, ideal for containers, to large trees of 10m or more in height.Leaves of the 'Sensitive Plant' protect themselves from predators by folding in response to touch and the entire stem collapses. Its leaves close up at night and open again in the morning as protection from adverse environmental conditions. It produces a profusion of pink pompom flowers that bloom from summer into autumn. Mimosa pudica is a perennial shrub, but is often treated like an annual and tossed out, because it tends to deteriorate after flowering. Younger plants are more beautiful
