Flowering season

From Late Summer TO Late Autumn

Rarely flowers in the UK climate but the flowers are small, yellowish, produced on a 45 cm inflorescence. The fruit is an edible 1 cm drupe resembling a small, thin-fleshed date.

Propogation by division

From Late Spring TO Early Summer

Propagate from rooted sucker growths removed from the host plant in May. Plant them individually in the growing compost.

Propogation by seed

From Late Winter TO Late Winter

Sow seeds (date stones) in late winter and germinate at a temperature of 18-21C. The seeds should germinate within two months the pot seedlings on individually into 3 inch pots.

Planting young plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Young plants grown from seed and young stock grown from suckers should be re-potted every two years to prevent them becoming pot bound.
