Nasturtium is an annual of climbing and trailing habit, and is one of the most widely grown species. It is suitable for growing in pots, hanging baskets and for covering trellis work. The mid-green leaves are smooth and circular with waved edges, sometimes variegated, and are edible, with a peppery taste. The faintly scented yellow, orange or red flowers of around 2 inches across, which appear from mid to late summer, are also edible.Tropaeolum speciosum is a climber that produces cascades of bright red flowers amongst attractive divided-leaved foliage through mid Summer. If planted amongst shrubs it will climb over them, and once established will make more tubers. The flowers are followed by clusters of blue berries.

Planting Season
From Mid Autumn TO Early Spring
Set out T. speciosum plants in mid Autumn or early Spring. They need an acid or neutral soil with peat, leaf mould and sand added. This is not a plant for town gardens. The rootstock is a creeping rhizome. Plant the rhizomes horizontally and apply a top dressing of compost each spring before growth begins
