Zizia aurea is a flowering perennial which ranges in height from 40 - 75cm. Golden Alexanders blooms from early to mid-summer. Its flowers are yellow and bunched at the top of the plant. Host to black swallowtail butterfly, it has unique foliage and a lacy flower form. It is known for its ability to survive dry summers even though it prefers wet habitats. It will self-seed and persist in many sun/soil situations.

Zizia Aurea is best suited to an informal setting in full sun to light shade in average, well-drained soil. Plant at the edge of a meadow with Erigeron pulchellus, Geranium maculatum, Phlox. Water well once first planted and keep moist until established when the plant should have doubled in size.
