These were maroon on the back of the leaves and pink on the front, just a stunning producer, only had this one plant last year, I lifted in the fall and it didn’t come back this spring! I wonder what I did wrong??
These may have been #cremedecassis dahlias, mine fit that description. I had a twining dahlia not come back this year, no idea why, all the others came back.
@jmlincoln I did not know that, bc I probably have 20 dahlias that have to be lifted with in the next month, and I think it has to be after the first hard frost?
Yes, after your first hard frost they'll turn black and at that time you can cut them down and dig them up. You'll want to rinse the tubers and let them air dry for a day or two before storing them somewhere dark for winter. Don't plant them back into the ground until weeks after your last frost, the ground needs to warm up. Or you can start them with heat indoors early just lightly spray with water but don't truly water until they begin to sprout. Hope that's helpful! Good luck 👍🏻

It's a beauty! Perhaps you started watering too soon? They don't require watering at time of planting nor do they want any until you see growth
