I’m thinking that it is some sort of old lady cactus, it seems tho the old lady’s have more white fuzz. I’m going to do a bit more looking and I’ll let yah know. 😊

A lovely! @gjones, I too thought about an old lady, but Julia seems right that there is not enough fuzz. Keep looking. It could be a hybrid too - sorry to add to the options. 😂💞 I noticed you are in Canada, you may need to put a grow light on her to get her to bloom. Spin her sometimes to keep her growing straight, as they lean into the light. 💞

@lovestogarden haha hey now I know that there are hybrid cactus that will help me kinda narrow it down!! I was doing a bit of reading and one person recommend that you don’t water your cactus during winter, is this true? I water about once a month in the winter as we have a fire place, should I water less or more? Last question I promise lol does it need 12 hours of light in order to flower? Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Julia, your questions are always welcome! Now that does not mean I will always know the answer, but someone on here should. 😁 I have very different growing conditions than you, so I keep mine outside and water year round. Some cactus

... (sorry for the interruption) need to go dormant, so watering in winter is unnecessary. As to how much light a cactus needs to bloom, I have no idea. 🤔 Is it light or heat or both? Maybe we should ask @SylviaDavies @Soph1e @gjones.

Interesting, Katy. I didn't know that, but it could very well be. Plants really do look differently depending on growing conditions. Age probably factors in too. @gjones

They like plenty of light. They tend to stretch and look sickly if they don't get enough. Some cacti don't bloom or take years to bloom, so there's no guarantee that all of them will flower. You could try giving it regular doses of cactus feed during the growing season.

@gjones @lovestogarden #soph1e thank you all for the information!! I’ve had that sucker in the same spot since I’ve gotten it. It’s in the south window, but pretty soon it will start getting light out at 830 and the sun will set at around 330, so I’m thinking a growing light is going to be key with helping this little guy! 🤗

@gjones the summers definitely make up for the long cold dark winters!!

This was a gift from my husband 5.5 years ago. This was the very first picture of this little guy, it has grown quite a bit! I’ll post recent pictures later today! Does any one know what type of #catus this is? Does it #flower #plantid #cactusandsucculent-advice #cactus-advice

It is very nice, Katy. Thank you for the tag. The #thorns are beautiful. @gjones This looks like a member of the Mammillaria genus. It is known for having a ball shape and a "nipple" surface. The exact species I am not sure. They do bloom when they get enough light. Check out: http://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=Mammillaria
