This is the last #heather thatched house in #northumberland Turf is laid first, upside down, then the heather, then right way up turves along the ridge. It’s on the Roman Road leading to Vindolanda, just below Hadrian’s Wall and is wonderful 💜

Just reread my message- heather not heart!!! And it lasts for years - thatch - straw has to be replaced more frequently
