This was a year later, in late May 2020. Supposedly white blooming Chamaelobivias are considered kind of rare? Uncommon to come by, at least. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve never heard of one. 🌞
Wow!

Felt compelled to look back through some old chamaelobivia photos. This one was from early June 2019. @savannahssucculentgarden this guy is stressed totally pink and doesn't even care! 😂
Absolutely gorgeous! And such a full pot! 😍🥰
Thanks, @savannahssucculentgarden ! This guy hasn't grown much in a couple years, but if I gave him a bigger pot I bet he'd fill it back up again in no time. 😅
Oh jeez, repotting a hanging cactus. Just thinking about it is stressful. 😂
@savannahssucculentgarden I cannot overstress the usefulness of a stout pair of elbow-length rose gloves in these situations...
@emch @savannahssucculentgarden naaaah, these noodly bois are nbd. I usually handle them with my bare hands, or with some light duty rubberized gloves. It's the opuntias and ferocacti and other randos with insane needles that are a nightmare! 😱😬
Lovely photo
@emch @beatnikcrab Lol I wasn't even thinking about myself.😂 I worry about breaking a stem off, especially if they are kind of molded around the lip of the pot.😬
Oh! @savannahssucculentgarden yeah, there is that. The nubs come off SUPER easily. Usually I just stick them back in the pot to root. Last time I repotted this guy he lost a bunch and I ended up sending them to a few ppl as part of plant trades. They grow back in no time!
@savannahssucculentgarden for me that just means more pieces to root and shop out to others...
@beatnikcrab @emch Yeah there's always that. I just really like the look of the super long hangers, and I hate to break up the family. 😪
@savannahssucculentgarden for YEARS every time I've done an image search for chamaecereus this link has popped up as one of the top results, and that first pic absolutely kills me. 🤩 https://www.etsy.com/listing/399368881 She used to have more photos like the first one, and it looked like a rectangular pot overflowing with cacti suspended in a wood frame AND I WANTED IT SO BAD. 🤣 Living art!
First flower of the season on this guy! It's working on a few more buds. It's always been a reliable bloomer, but not the most prolific. #sunlover
So cool!!! Mine bloomed today also but I wasn’t able to capture it.
A white one! I didn’t think there was any other color. 💕🌞
@sunlovin apparently the white ones are rare! It was the very first one I ever bought, so I just got really lucky. 🤷🏻♀️ I have a couple that are different shades of reddish/orangish hot pink, and I think my mom has a light pink one. I also have a bunch of random starter stems that haven't bloomed yet, so idk what color they are. I was wondering if the 'Rose Quartz' name actually comes from the cactus' pink stress color..? 🤔
I think you might be right about the stress color name. How neat you got something uncommon by luck. I have some more cacti that look like Rose Quartz but a little different. I don’t know what they are I’m waiting for them to bloom so maybe I’ll get lucky too. 🤞
@sunlovin I'm not honestly sure what categorizes a Chamaelobivia as 'Rose Quartz' anymore. I've never seen a Chamaelobivia for sale that wasn't labeled as such, and the flowers are all different colors, and the growth forms are very variable. I think the name is applied very loosely. 🤷🏻♀️ The name in the database here drives me nuts, too, bc there's no such thing as a 'Rose Quartz' peanut cactus. They're different species!
