Out with the old, in with the new - ok so the yew on the left is not a patch on the box ball it's replacing at the moment, but I won't need to worry about box caterpillars any more 🐛🐛🐛. One down, seven to go 🟢 #foliagefriday
Morning Sue , I’m doing the same 👍🏻
I feel like it's going to pay off in the end Julie, bit sad as I grew all the box balls from cuttings but time for a change 🟢 @juliesgarden
I am sure you will soon have new, large, healthy, green balls😄
Hope so Joan 🤞😂🟢 @joannie.a

Having seen my ten box balls (grown from cuttings and nurtured over many years) attacked for a second year by caterpillars, I've taken the decision to replace them with yew so yesterday I took the plunge. Photo shows them in their unruly state, one repotted and roughly shaped, and a pot of cuttings from the trimmings. I know it will take a while to get to the size and shape of the box, but I'm not prepared to persevere or mess about with chemical treatment 🪴🟢🐛 #foliagefriday #newproject
Seems to have been a bad year for the box trees Sue 😕
Shame about the box but I am sure your new yew topiary will look super
Yes Julie, all mine had a dose to some degree, they look as if they're recovering but if it's going to be an annual event I'd rather try again with the yew 🐛 @juliesgarden
Totally agree , I’ve lost one so far but keeping my eyes on the others more next year
In a way I'm looking forward to them as a new project Joan. They'll be a lot darker than the box too which will be good 🟢 @joannie.a
Good luck with your new project, Sue. 👍
Hope they grow well for you. My box hedge is ok so far but will do the same if it succumbs

Fingers crossed 🟢🤞 @joanboston @jacaranda @brightcolours
Busy mulching for what seems like weeks 🤪, looks a bit bare without the box balls but hopefully the yew bushes will be a good long term replacement 🤞🟢
