Rhododendron (Rhododendron Varieties)

Hi guys I have a bit of a leggy and woody large rhododendron in the garden at work and I’m curious can this be hard pruned and rejuvenated? And has anyone tried this? I’m scared I’ll kill it but it’s looking quite sorry for itself!

I believe you can cut them to about 15"

@harebell thank you! I’ve read that my concern is all the leaf and bud is at the top it will look like a twig if I cut it back hard but I think I’m gonna give it a go and see what happens 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

You could try just cutting back some of it to see if it shoots before chopping the lot

@harebell that’s what I’ve done I’ve cut back 3 leggy branches quite hard to about 18” I’ll watch them first it’s not the healthiest thing in the world but seems a shame to get rid of it completely!

With a bit of luck it might be alright
