@columbiariver I live in Northern California and it wasn’t as hot this year in my area, so this plant didn’t grow as much. It has a few branches and that’s about it. The birds has been eating them as well.

Here’s the #rosella I planted on the ground. I’m hoping this plant would take over and grow. #hibiscus #hibiscus-subdariffa #sorrel #edible #beneficial

If you give them more room they’ll grow to the size of a small tree. I usually put them in ground since they only last until the winter in my area. They do best in full sun as well. Unfortunately my seeds didn’t make it this year. What I love about this plant is that every part is useful. I dry out the stalk and stems to feed to my rabbit and chinchilla as a treat. The leaves I throw into food as a dry herb. And the flowers are used for teas. The leaves have a cranberry taste to them.

@rudester1 I have 1 planted on the ground in my backyard. I wish I have the space to plant these 2 pots on the ground. I have limited space.

@dadayba I understand limited space all too well. Keep us updated on progress please. This is one of my favorites to grow. The color is just wonderful.

I had no idea the leaves were edible too. I plan to try some seeds soon @rudester1

@novicegardenlover they have a cranberry flavor. I use the leaves in my cooking and as a snack. Once dried the cranberry taste goes away. I dry out the stems and stalk as well to give to my chinchilla and rabbit as a treat. They love to gnaw on it.

@dadayba I grow them in 9a, they grow tall, and big. They may out grow your pot! They usually start blooming in Sept/Oct. You can prune them back to stay bushier 😉

@treefrog44 really? This 10 gallon pot is not big enough?

@dadayba they get to be a huge shrub! They will be root bound in a few short months 😉
