Where do you overwinter it, Dave? I lost mine this year and although I’d love to get another one I don’t want to risk another casualty 😢

@jacaranda it goes in my bar Barbara, its frost free in there. The leaves die off, but they start again in spring.

I’d better build a bar then, Dave 🤣🤣 Failing that I could put it in the shed or garage I suppose? I kept the last one in the greenhouse but I think it was too cold there. Have a great day 😘

@rob36 i put them in my bar rob, which is frost free. The leaves slowly go yellow over winter, so i take them off then, their bigger this year, so i might have to remove them first.

I think this is my best bananna pic yet 🤗 for under a tenner these have to be one of the best statement plants you can buy

Wow yours are much bigger then mine did you cut them back to over winter them ? I did I lost one altogether and the other although healthy is quite small with only 1 leaf @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co

@tmwignall I'm lucky that I've got room to keep them frost free, so they kept their leaves most of the winter. They did start yellowing though, so cut them off, and new growth started almost straight away. I've got them in my polytunnel now, for a couple more weeks then I'll put them outside. Their getting greenfly on them at the moment, so need to sort that.

I kept mine in unheated greenhouse wrapped up but one went rotten and although I tried cutting it back it didn't recover . The other one is doing well although small 😊 @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co

Don't panic if the first couple of leaves turn yellow, it will just be adjusting to the sunlight

Is yours indoors Dave? Mines in my garage, with no light. Been tempted to get it out soon and put it in the poly tunnel.

@richard.spicer.7906 i put them in the house about 4 weeks ago rich, and they have started to come to life. Prior to that they were in my bar outside, which is frost free, but still cold in winter. They slowly deteriorated in there.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been worrying about. It wasn’t supposed to grow but a leaf has come through but obviously yellow as it’s in the dark so not doing much for the plant. Might start slowly introducing it to light and then will be ready for poly for a bit till frosts gone. Cheers Dave 👍🏼 (yours is looking quite healthy btw)

A bit of #advice needed please. If i can keep these going over winter, in a frost free room, is it still best to cut the leaves off, or can they stay. Havnt got the heart when they still looking healthy.

If you've got room to keep them on then leave them on 😉 When you put them outside again next year, the current leaves will struggle with the sun but the new leaves when they come through will be fine

@vec thanks julie, it seems criminal to cut the leaves off when they still look good.

I've left the growing leaf on mine in the greenhouse. I brought one indoors last year and it didn't stop growing. Had to keep chopping it back to keep it on the windowsill 😂 If it's indoors, water when it needs it as it will dry out just don't drown it

Time for these to come in, i think. The morning temps, are dropping fast.

As these aren't hardy Elaine, it's best to keep them in pot so you can bring them in every winter. If you have a big frost free space to put them in overwinter, you can let them run riot but they do have to brought in as not at all hardy 😊 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom

Went to buy a nice pot for my banana, but decided to get two cheaper pots and another banana. So now ive got two 😁

Fab! Mine was in a pot last year, but this year I've planted it in a large plastic pot and sunk it into my tropical bed so it's easier to lift in Autumn 😁

Looks like I've got to wait a bit to order one of these. Certainly worth the wait though 🤗

It certainly will be! Mine was only little this time last year. They grow so quickly in summer 😄
