Grown in full sun all day in the driveway in TX. Aloe vera does just fine in direct sun, they just have to be slowly acclimated and people shouldn’t panic when their plant turns brown. Brown means it is adjusting to more light than it is used to, it’s not sunburned or dying and it doesn’t mean they don’t like direct sun. Sunburn causes clear/bleached spots and permanent damage. Once the plant adjusts to direct sun, the brown goes away. Gray/green is not unhealthy either. #aloevera

Brown can also be a “winter blush” color...some Aloes turn nicer colors in winter (or full sun, or when they are thirsty, etc, it’s a stress color), like cameronii turns red or all those colorful little hybrids..vera can turn brown, which I can understand a lot of people won’t care for, but it isn’t a cause to panic unless you see a clear brown color and the leaf is mushy or leaking, that is rot. Brown spots are fungus from poor drainage, but a brown “tan” is fine.

Aloe vera...barbadensis is an old name/synonym. Miller is often attached to it like a variety, but Miller is the last name of the person who described it as barbadensis. Nicolaus Laurens Burman described the plant as vera before Miller described it as barbadensis, and vera is more accurate because the plant is not “of Barbados”. Blooms yellow. If your “vera” blooms another color, it isn’t vera.
