@ecoami - you can plant the flower stalk and it will root and produce pups. However I do not believe that is what is going on here. I think what you find here is called a ‘terminal flower’. It grows right from the centre and the plant dies after flowering. You may be able to stop this from happening by cutting it off right away and crossing your fingers. Sometimes this works and sometimes this doesn’t.
Also, looking at this plant label, please note that this is a #perlevonnunberg, and not a Purple Pearl as the label seems to indicate. A Green Pearl is green with pink shine in the crown. A Perle Von Nurnburg is all pink at the top and green at the bottom. Purple Pearl has no green on it at all, the lower leaves go a strand browinish purple colour. Hope all this helps. ☺️
Hi Amy, this doesn’t look at all like a purple pearl to me? I agree with the ID from @Yollymac that it’s a Perle von Nurnberg. I can’t find any reference to a purple Perle von Nurnberg. Have you found any?
@brightcolours that’s just what the tag says but I agree. It’s hard to tell sometimes though because I have a purple Perle that was green until it’s been in light and it’s been bright purple ever since. Oh well on this though, I stripped all the leaves for propagation.
I bought this at a nursery yesterday. Did they just replant a flower stalk? It’s growing straight from the center. @Yollymac

@Yollymac thank you! I actually bought it thinking that would be the case and thought I’d propagate all the leaves. Good to know!

Do you know how to change the link to the plant encyclopaedia?
@brightcolours I couldn’t at first but I figured it out. Thanks!
@ecoami - plant the flower stalk too if you haven’t already. It may still pup new babies for you. #notabitwasted
Yay! 👍🏼
