Acacia

Last time I posted a picture of this result of a mystery seed I gathered in Florida, @KariSamuel told me it was probably some kind of mimosa, but for the longest time I couldn't figure out how to add an encyclopedia link after the fact. I know... 😳 Look at the top leaves/branches, though. At first I thought it was thirsty and perhaps wilted, but turns out it both looks and feels fresh and healthy. Drama queen???

Some plants keep us guessing for a long time before we get it! 🤗 How is the lighting where you have it? It looks happy otherwise!

I'm still not sure @KariSamuel. Some kind of mimosa, definitely, but none of the pictures I found on GT or Google looked quite like mine, so I'll have to settle for the 'unknown variety' for now. I like my plant though, and that's the main thing, after all.

It was in a west-facing window, so I worried with the increasing light of spring, that perhaps it had gotten too dry. It doesn't look like it, but I have moved it to a different window where I can more easily keep an eye on it. @KariSamuel

Good morning Mona. It looks like a baby #acacia of some kind. They are also known as thorn tree in some places 🤔🤓

That sounds really promising @awomanonabike , I'll be very excited if that turns out to be true. I of course ran straight to Mr Google, and I love what I found. Stay tuned for updates as it grows!

When reading about acasias being in or related to the pea family, I remember the seed looking kind of square-ish, almost like a dried pea, but more red/brown. I posted a seed-picture last year, I'll try to tag it again somehow. Interesting... I wouldn't mind that @cyndi . I gathered the seeds in various Disney parks, and of course I didn't think to photograph the actual trees.

The seed didn't really look like a rowan berry, more like a kind of square pea --- but I don't know. If you are right @mariomartins, does that mean it will perhaps survive winters outside in my area? That wouldn't be bad!

I haven't seen the # berries so am not sure if it's it but by the shape and leaf it looks like it Mona. . ...about surviving outside am not sure the tolerance they got with the different type of weathers @emve
