basically Bonsai means plant on the pot, so every plant can be a bonsai. But there is another term that Bonsai must have; is look like the big tree in a small view term. So there is little trick that smooth trunk can be like old tree, first make a thicker trunk and you can make some scars on the trunk, they will build some old tree pattern.
