I recently visited a yellow book garden and met Tim who owns it. His philadelphus smells lovely so I asked why mine doesn't. He informed me there are several species and some dont have any scent. 😣

He said some are European and some from America. @richard.spicer.7906 Apparently he has been a plant collector abroad. His garden is near Harold Hill.
