Did you know camellias are the official flower for Sacramento, CA? Recently found this out, and i did some research being a history lover lol. The 1st camellia the city saw was brought over in 1852 by James Warren from Japan, and by 1941 the city had adopted camellias as its flower. By the time it became the city flower, it had inspired the sacramento garden club, an annual camellia festival(oldest in US) and numerous annual shows to display their flowers 🌸 #camellia #perennials #shadeplants

@sherrisgarden haha i didnt know that either, but found out there are a dozen cultivated varieties specifically for the seeds(if i remember correctly). Staple product in southern china. Plant history interests me alot haha.

My boss has about 6-7 Camelia’s in there yard( i’m there gardener) and im constantly battling with the plants because they keep getting Scale. I spray them and it goes away but then it comes back so is there any advice u could give me on wut to do.

@ortizalbo I’d recommend new plants to be honest but if they must be kept they are most likely being overwatered and are underpriced..I usually see scale in high humidity and low air circulation areas of the garden. Spacing them better and pruning them plus lowering the water will make them less susceptible
