I was somewhat comforted when Monty said on Friday night that he hadn’t had many flowers on his tithonia. This one is five feet tall but not a flower in sight! I have four plants, all very healthy but I can’t see any real sign of flowers 🤷🤔
Me too! Always makes me feel better when its not just me struggling with plants 😂
Mine were like yours last year so I didn’t bother growing them this year! They seem to be very hit and miss 😢
They do seem to be temperamental, I have several all from the same batch from seed and one is flowering whereas all the others are just greenery. You certainly need a lot of patience with them @joanboston @allhop74 @jacaranda 🧡

This is the largest of our tithonia, do you suppose it might flower before the first frost? It’s about two foot six
🤞🤞🤞
I've got those Joan and only one flower amongst them so far. They certainly keep you in suspense 😐🧡
All I can say is fingers crossed

I planted a couple of tithonia, with some protection from slugs and birds. Looking ok so will remove it soon and plant out some more 🤞🤞
I love these too Joan. I’ve had a strange gardening year so ended up putting nearly all of mine in one large pot 😬 It will be interesting to see what they end up like… 😂
Indeed look forward to seeing that Jacqueline @awomanonabike

Tithonia in the front garden has been amazing. Still going strong
Still amazing…..I had to cut mine down when it reached 8ft no kidding….is that one a dwarf Joan….
Geoff had just pulled up an eight foot one in the back garden Elaine! All plant and hardly any flowers. This one is four foot and has spread out nicely and flowered all summer. Same packet of seed @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
It must have been the year of the 8 footers Joan 😆

A flower from our third plant. Hard to photograph as it’s very sprawling but happy. Five flowers on this one, in the front garden
They are such perfect simple flowers. Just love them 🧡
Love that orange! 😍👍🏻

These are two of our tithonia. The left one is over five feet tall and has only had two flowers but has lots of buds to come. The right one is three feet tall and has had several fliers with more to come Jacqueline @awomanonabike
Oh wow! They are huge and look so healthy. I love the #colourcombo 🧡💜
They are very tall

Morning all pricked out around 20 tithonia yesterday 🤞🤞
Morning Joan. Must try these again ....you've definitely got the touch 👋😯
Good morning Joan looking good🤗
Morning Enid, hotpots warmer where you are, it’s freezing here! @godfreye
Morning Joan, sowed mine yesterday 🧡 First time for me really looking forward to seeing them in flower 🤞🏻
@auricula, I sowed a lot as previously not had a good strike rate. This year they’ve all come up! They can be temperamental so 🤞
Oh I won’t blame myself if they don’t germinate 😂 thanks for that info Joan ☺️

Yeah tithonia is on the way. Sown 24/2
Are they the bright orange ones? @joanboston
Yes they are @topiarytragedy
I really must do mine at the weekend 👍

These are doing well Jane @pelly
Wow, they're way bigger than mine. I had to put mine in the greenhouse too early as I ran out of room inside so it slowed them down. They'd better get a wiggle on now, I'll have a word with them 😂
Yes mine have been in the conservatory, though I’ve put the bigger ones in the greenhouse this week ( unheated) so 🤞🤞Jane, @pelly
Thanks Joan 🙏 @joanboston

First flower! Grown from seed this year
Love the colour Joan, I've got seeds ready for next year. When did you sow yours? 🤔
Around March time Jane, I find the success rate quite poor but worth it , you don’t need many plants as they can get huge @pelly
Thanks for the info and the warning. By the way, I think my Chocolate Soldiers are finally starting to grow, they're taking forever 🙄
@joanboston thank you and you have some lovely plants. Runner beans looking good
Well here we have it! My one and only flower from five very healthy tall plants. Don’t think I’ll bother next year #octoberblooms
Such a shame - Monty Don was complaining about his which had grown to about 10 ft and were mostly leaves.
Ines had a few flowers Joanne but only one plant from 5 plants same as you 😕
I grew them for the first time a couple of years ago and they did well. Last year they were poor and this year none of the seeds germinated. 😢😢
