I can't believe I halved this in Spring, I'll be doing the same again next Spring 😳

Looks fabulous 😍

Beautiful 💚

Wow! That's lovely grass and it lives up to its name. Beautiful 💚💚

This is the one I cut right down to an inch or so of the ground after splitting it (if you remember @Keely) seems to be thriving on it

That's great I'm going to do same then in future makes a right mess shredding it with your fingers experiment confirmed best job much easier cheers chuck 😆

@Keely it may also of helped by adding fresh compost

As recommend I've given the grass a severe self-isolating cut. I was a bit anxious but @ublaszko and @keely said go for it and the number of green shoots have vastly increased!

I cut mine down quite a while ago

Great news you will be able to compare with one you didn't cut back see which looks best later in year keep me posted as I'm interested to know which is best 😁

Ahead of the game as ever Jayne, I've read so much contradictory on pruning grasses @jaynehynesburton

I won't trim the control sample then Keely 😅 @Keely

Some you don't prune so worth checking JP

I think this one doesn't show the cut line because of their hairlike quality so it works even though technically it's evergreen and doesn't need pruning. I saw Monty pruned his halfway back in autumn in last year's Gardener's World. If it's good enough for Monty it's good enough for me 😉

@ublaszko well all I know is the number of green shoots have increased drastically 👍

👍👍

@Keely untill I find a proper home for them 😁

I've got a few mixed in with perennials in front garden it looks nice wafting in between them still needs more shredding though a good tug all that old top growth needs to go 👍

I'll give it another combing then @Keely

The old growth of my stipa doesn't seem to come off so I just chopped it all back to the ground. A couple of weeks later plenty of new growth 👍 @jpea @Keely

Oh I didn't think you could do that Urszula! @ublaszko

You’ll have plenty of babies off them...I’m sick of pulling them out...😉

I chopped it back last year because Pudgy likes to chew stipa tenuissima and leave gaps in it and I was suprised how quickly stipa grew back. I also noticed local uni chops all stipas back in spring at the same time as they do miscanthus. 👍

@ublaszko @Keely well thanks to Keely's kindness I've now got 2 so I'll cut one and see what happens, thank you

Good thinking 👍 let me know how it turns out I'm forever cutting my fingers shredding them 😂😂

@ublaszko how low did they cut down the grass?

Probably as low as 1 inch. I didn't want it to show later on where the cut line was.

Thanks Urszula, that'll be my next job 🙂

Time split it me thinks ( @Keely ), it's just where to put the other half 😳

Yes n you need to shred your fingers through it to take out the dead grass or use a wire brush so you don't get cuts the new growth won't be able to breathe otherwise 😬

I've split it into 2 so I'll put one half into the ground @Keely

Shred it before you plant it though otherwise you will just keep pulling it out of border as it won't be rooted yet 😆

@Keely I've run my fingers through both halves taking loads of dead strands out but there's still plenty. 🤔

Looks like my hair in the morning 😂😂😂

At least you have some @charlotte I'm heading towards catweasel myself 😅

Morning Ange, hope it's a good one for you 😊👋

It looks great! What a nice Dad you are 👍😊

Thank you Jacqui, dads and daughters eh, soft touch or what 😂

Oh its looking good all you need to do with this early spring is just thread your fingers through it to take dead grass out will be even bigger n better later this year

And that's kinda therapeutic Keely as well as good husbandry @Keely

@Keely please can you help me identify this plant that your mum gave me, thanks

Looks the a ponytail grass like the one I've got Mexican feather grass I think 😊

Love them lovely as they blow in the wind 😁

That triggered a grey cell to spark, I'm sure your right, thanks @Williamson

Helen is right Jeremy its stipa tennuisima aka Mexican feather grass or ponytail grass 👍🙋

Thanks Keely I'm thinking this will definitely firm the thriller to a spiller and filler in a pot 😊
Morning folks, seems my #wildlifewednesday are self isolating so here's a grassy photo 🙃
Afternoon Jeremy 😂😂😂
