I've made this #variegated elder into a standard tree to encourage more birds into garden and it works a treat 💚 keeping on top of it so it doesn't get too big 😄
Great idea!,that’s the beauty of elders being able to prune them to size & control them. I planted one like this to block out the neighbours window....works a treat! 😄👍🏻
@Leroybe good idea, I've got the black lace in a huge pot in back hoping I can do same with that one too if and when its strong enough as only about 2' at minute 😄
That's brilliant Keely! Looking fab!!💘😍
@ShelleySnyder alot of inspiration from you with this 😘
Really!? I'm thrilled!💘😍
@cyndi thanks Hun. 😊
Looks lovely Keely. I did this to mine and it looked lovely for a couple of years. It went wild last year and hubby cut it too far back 😡 I fell out with him for a bit. It's slowly recovering but I think it will take a while to get the shape back. Reminder to myself not to leave him to it again 🙄
@susanhumphrey333 I want it a bit higher next year as it's covering some of plants like the foxgloves so I will take off a few more branches underneath, naughty hubby 😣

Variegated #sambuca thriving in mums garden today such huge flowers #notmygarden I have same one in front border but not as big, mums was a cutting from mine and she's let hers grow and made it more of a standard tree, she's happy now she has birds going in it 😆🕊🐦🐥
Evening Keely @Keely fabulous love the flowers 😍😘
@jadojado29 evening Suzie they are superb flowers all she's ever wanted is a tree in garden now she has let this grow she's happy as birds are coming back in now 👍
Awwww that's lovely Keely @Keely always best to keep mum happy 😉😘
That's beautiful
Planted one of these last year to hide a neighbours roof extension at the bottom of the garden, already the height of the fence! 😃
@Leroybe they do grow fast Leon I've always kept mine to a minimum but going to do same as mum and lift the canopy so I too get some height in front border its in a really good corner so maybe next year it will be just as high too 👍
@Keely yes I've got black lace & sutherlands gold, with those I cut them down to a certain height every year. They do grow fast & if left they get a bit too big lol 😊
I have this Keely and can't keep up with it. I love it though and so do the birds. I sometimes get completely yellow leaves, which don't look very good, so I just cut them out 👍 Also gets lots of black fly on the tender ends, so I just cut them off to save spraying

Variegated Sambucus coming up 👍
#standard elder, also used for my bird feeders and there's a clematis waiting to bloom growing through it 💚
Can’t wait to see it with the clematis in bloom! 😀
