I recently found a lot of bulbine bulbosa close to snow gums by the side of the road. I dug some up and I have transplanted some of the plants to a fenced in area in the paddock. I had fenced off a small area of snow gum seedlings. #eucalyptus. #Pauciflora. So planted in the same plot. Aboriginal women dug up the starchy bulb for food. The bulb was then roasted on the campfire and eaten. In the top right pic you can see the bulbs/tubers. #bulbine

#Oznative #bushtucker. #bulbine. Also sometimes called 'native leek'. There is another similar native plant called bulbine glauca (rock lily) @redbud.

Thanks @brightcolours. I am putting a hold on all my dreary paperwork and will soon be heading across the hill to check and water the transplanted bulbine lilies. I'm not sure if I'll be successful getting them to recover & grow, because I don't think they like disturbed soil. But I'll give it a go.

Did you cut the flowers off some of them to reduce transpiration? Have you mulched the area?

Oh no. I took as much soil as I could from the original site. I used existing leaves & grass from the site to 'mulch' them. Now I'll take over a bit more water and hope. They are surrounded by snow gum seedlings that came up naturally - protected from the sheep by a small temporary fence.

Give them a drink of seaweed solution too to help with transplant shock. Sprinkle some blood and bone?

I do have some blood n bone. They are bulbs so not sure if seasol is good. I'm thinking - they are native - maybe not too many usual garden additives. But will certainly water them.

They looked in good condition when I visited them late this arvo.
