Keep an eye out for Aphids and spray off with soapy water before they get out of hand. I spotted these black fly today when pruning my black elder, I pruned it hard to encourage vigorous regrowth and hopefully solve the Aphid problem.

I cut it back hard every other year. It flowers well the second year then which the the bees love. Left unpruned it gets very wide and somewhat lanky looking.
