Well, it didn’t get as big as the package said, but 17 lbs? Not bad. I was so scared to cut it open haha. I tried it while it was still hot. It is so sweet! #watermelon #gyo

@lesliecole49 I used to be a social butterfly! I’ve always had anxiety but never knew it until I started getting panic attacks and that’s when my doc said I was agoraphobic. I was honestly stunned to discover that! 😭😭

@lesliecole49 I’m not against it! I just live in a state where it is so highly illegal people were very recently still getting life sentences for being in possession of it. Before I had a baby, heck yes, but I just can’t now because I’m too afraid of the government and having my child taken. :(

It's almost as bad here. I don't think it's a felony anymore. At least CBD oil is legal. Is it there? That would be as good

@lovestogarden thanks Janice! I’m trying to do pictures every day so I can make a bit of a time lapse. I didn’t think there was much difference in size today until I uploaded this picture and scrolled to yesterday’s. I was about to stop doing the daily pictures, but I’ll continue until it for sure isn’t getting any bigger, and then post another when I cut it, WHICH I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT! Gonna try it before refrigerating it. I read somewhere they are sweeter if they aren’t refrigerated.

@columbiariver Laura I’m not sharing! Haha jk I wish I could! Im hoping raccoons don’t get to it before I can. Someone warned me the other day that they can tell when they are ripe. I know the signs to look for for ripeness, but do you know how long they take to get there?

@cyndi I have a little bit of chicken wire I was going to use as a new compost bin. I’ll see about going out tomorrow to try that out. It’s been raining and the skeeters are baaaaad. The chicken wire is already shaped into a tube so I may try just carefully lifting the melon with the cardboard still underneath and sliding it into the tube, then pinching together the ends. I don’t have enough for all the melons so I’ll just do this one so that at least I’ll have one haha. Thanks for the idea!! 🙏

8.27.18 today’s watermelon picture. I found 6-8 new female flowers about ready to bloom today, so I’ve been watching them closely. Caught one open earlier and hand pollinated it with a paint brush because I noticed a few that had not gotten pollinated and died off. About 4-6 hours after the flower romance time, I noticed the flower had closed. Hope it took! #watermelon

@Cyndi The patch right now is huge and honestly kind of scary lol. This is the only one I’m aware of. I’m hoping to one day randomly find a couple of big ones lol. I’m scared to walk through it to check. I misread the package and planted them too close together. 😭

@cyndi yes! And the seed pack cost less than I would pay for one at a grocery store! Hey I’ve got some interesting blue jarrahdale and batwing pumpkin seeds coming in. Would you like me to send you over some? The blue pumpkins are supposed to make THE BEST pumpkin pie.

@cyndi nope! Not yet! I even went and checked the mail today forgetting it is Sunday lol. I’m so excited about them!

@cyndi same here. I moved here quite suddenly early this year and I just didn’t have time to think much out. I have a compost bin going, and have been saving toilet paper rolls, egg crates, and anything useful I can to start seeds in next year. I hope we both have great years! Looking forward to getting a lot done. I’m betting on tomorrow as well. I know I said thanks already but really, it means a lot to me, so thanks again lol ❤️
