Morning everyone. I’m not sure what has happened to my #bleeding-heart-spectabilis this year but it’s tiny. I’m wondering if it’s the lack of rain 🤔🩷 #lamprocapnos-spectabilis #dicentra-spectabilis

I would say it’s a combination of the cold, wet winter followed by no rain and a very early warm spell, Jane. The poor plants don’t know if they’re coming or going! I’ve just checked on mine and one is doing better than the others. I’ll post a photo of the good one in a minute! @juliesgarden @debs69

I think you are probably right Barbara. Thinking about it several of my plants aren’t where they should be. I’ve even been watering already although thankfully it’s raining this morning ☔️ @jacaranda

We have sunshine! The wind has abated too, but we have had a frost. Geoff was outside at 11 pm putting a cover over the podiphyllum as I suddenly remembered I hadn’t done it!

I had a few plants look like this today 🤭 the crown imperials were all flopped over! Recovered by the end of the day 👍🏼

It’s pretty much recovered Rich. It grew quite tall quite quickly so the stem is still very soft. Luckily we seem to have escaped last night’s forecast frost 🙏 @richard.spicer.7906

Glad you found it! Now I have a dilemma whether it would be safe to repot mine in fresh compost. Last year I didn't have compost so I planted it in garden soil. I think I will replant it today 🌞😎

That's great! Bleeding heart is such a welcome sight, especially that it will be another year or so before my camellia or rhododendron will be in flower.

@jacaranda It's a lovely day outside so I'm doing a spot of garden shopping and then some repotting.

Jane, I think I will leave it as it is. You spurred me to have another look on the rhs website and I forgot that bleeding heart is well suited to clay soil and can handle even poorly drained soil. 👍👍
