This year my garden has been brutally under attack! It has been a constant battle between me and Bindweed, Lily beetles, ants, woodlice, greenfly, blackfly, white fly, sap suckers, slugs, caterpillars and bloomin vine weevil. Now I’ve discovered 2 of my roses have rust and black spot and my corn flower has powdery mildew! Where is it all coming from? What am I doing wrong? I’m out there daily! I’m clearing, weeding, de slugging and using sprays etc...Is this normal!? #underattack #pests #fungus
Is your garden quite new? My first couple of years in the garden have been a constant struggle with pests and diseases because the garden hasn't been cultivated for 20 years. It's now in its 3rd year and much easier. I find that it's best to get pests under control in March so they don't multiply as much. In fact, I spray the garden with insecticide and fungicide (not at the same time) in March before any signs of pests/disease to prevent them in the first place.
@ublaszko Thank you so much for your wisdom here. Yeah we moved into the house 3 years ago. The first year was digging out all the old rotten trees, pulling out lots of weeds and turning the soil and the 2nd was planting lots of young plants and seeds and this year it’s gone mad and looks great but with it a lot of pests and other fun things. I’ll remember that for next March. Give everything a good spray before Spring kicks in. Thank you 😊
Sounds familiar haha I use slug pellets all year round as we've had damage from slugs/snails even in winter. I also keep a record of pest and disease problems in my garden so next year I can prepare ahead of the time. The main thing I'd say is to avoid using insecticide/fungicide on plants in flower so with a bit of forward thinking you can spray them without harming bees and butterflies.
