This moon cactus didnt make it. When I repotted it I noticed that stick thing between the cactus and the rootball. Anyone know what it is? #helpidentify #weirdroot

Could it be a stick that was used to keep the pieces together while it was grafting?

It is definitely a means of keeping them together until they are grafted together!

@savannahssucculentgarden and @karisamuel thank you, that makes complete sense, except the roots are at the bottom of the stick!

It.looks like.something is above the roots at the top of the dirt. I mean I can't tell but could.it be the inside of the cactus and the part missing rotted away?

I would agree with @heatherdirtyhands. It looks like that section rotted. Can you plant it deep enough to cover to the bottom of the #rootstock?

@heatherdirtyhands and @lovestogarden It can't hurt to try planting deeper, but that's what made it rot the first go round I think. Will give it a whirl. Nothing to lose.

Keep the watering low and let the soil dry out between waterings. 👍

Like.put it deep.enough that the green part of the cactus is just barely under the dirt. Dont put alot of the green in the dirt.

The red one started to rot at the base. I pulled it up and scraped off the rot, but there is a stalk coming from the center that is a couple inches long with a ball of roots at the bottom. #isthisnormal?

You must like owls. You have a lot of succulents I’ve never seen. I’ve only been doing this for a few years

@docthrill I found these owl planters at Dollar General at thw end of the season. I do like owls, but it was the sale price I couldn't resist. David, I have been looking for the unusual succulents and I, too, got inspiration from the group here.
