#rododendron my rody is finally blooming, the only other one I have in the back is lord Roberts and it doesn't bloom till june ( maybe later this year).

@columbiariver this rody has been here for over 40 years, so if we never cut it I'm afraid we wouldn't have a back yard at all!!

I've never seen them shaped like This! Looks great. Rhodies thrive here in the south I hear, so I expect I'll have some, just not this year. I have to have a design in mind before I can place them. Sure wish I had a garden designer for a friend!

8w

ShelleySnyder

@lesliecole49 that shape comes with lots of trimming!

nancyanne

Yes... I never knew you could trim a Rody like that...that is really unique and very attractive...🌺🌼

Make sure you trim right after bloom so you don't loose next year's blooms #lesliecole49

8w

ShelleySnyder

@momasherri yes your right about that! I have a neighbor that had one near his front door that grew out of control and I told him when to cut it ( didn't listen) so he cut it back to about 2ft. Tall (it was at least 8ft.) It didn't bloom the next year , but it did the year after that! They are tough!!

8w
comment
momasherri

@ ShellySnyder they sure are tough. I cut down a near dead one and it triggered an amazing growth over the next few years resulting in exceptional blooms unlike any of the others I had. I had 10 plus huge rhodies, taller than my 1 story house.

8w
comment
ShelleySnyder

@momasherri WOW! I do know with a lot of plants trimming them triggers something in them and they seem to grow even faster so I hesitate to trim some until it's a must do, then it's constant trimming! Such is gardening I guess! 😢😉😍

momasherri

Amen to that. But is a nice tool to get that's dragging it's feet to perk up. I prefer to do it over a couple years instead of all at once@ShelleySnyder
