You were right, Kim, this one came up with no resistance and there were grubs on the end 😲😠 (they fell off while I was adjusting the focus... 😐) @Mikekally I'll go in search of collars online today...
😠😠😠
It's so annoying, horrible little buggers!
In the end I've ordered a bunch of insect mesh, it will keep off the butterflies too; I'm sick of doing egg patrol... @Mikekally
Good call @tara_h let me know how it goes. I ordered some cabbage collars so we can compare! Also treated myself to some wool pellets, hope I get as good results as you did!
Good luck with the pellets, I've been very happy with them! @Mikekally

#cabbage patch - one is suspiciously limp... They're giving me more stress than any of the other veg and #idontevenlikecabbage 😐
Ahhhhh this is how it started with mine!
Oh don't say that 🤢 @Mikekally maybe I should just burn it all with fire... 🔥🔥🔥
I dug one of them up when it started to flop, rinsed off all the soil and grubs, and replanted. Gonna dig it up again at the weekend to check but I'm hopeful
Also ordered cabbage collars from eBay!

Pulled up the suspicious #cabbage this morning and replaced it with one of the reserves... I couldn't find any indication of what was wrong but it did seem to have much fewer roots than it should. For comparison, this is the one beside it, it's about 4 times the size!

Kim, I've been examining my cabbages very carefully since I saw your pic and this one is worrying me a bit... Did yours look anything like this? @Mikekally
Mine looked perfectly fine except for two bottom leaves that were yellowing but was lying on its side. When I gave it a tug it came out of the soil with no resistance at all
There were no roots below what was in the pic, and mine were a lot bigger than yours, so I'd expect much more roots. I didn't disturb the soil to look for the rest of them in case I spread them to other plants or gave them an opening
Thanks, I guess there's something else going on there then... I still have some 'on the bench', maybe I should just scrap this one and replace it.
If you give it a tug does it resist at all? @Tara_H
Worst case, lift it out and take a look? mine were overcrowding anyway, so I didn't have room to do that without bothering it's neighbour
Yeah, I pulled it a little and pushed back some of the soil and didn't see anything weird @Mikekally
Ah cool, I saw those little grubs straight away, they're not shy!
All the rest look perfectly normal and are attracting butterflies... 🙄
Is that mares tail poking through? Maybe it's roots are getting choked by that?
Yeah, those damn things are everywhere... It's entirely possible it's got root damage from them... They pushed some of my asparagus roots completely out of the ground!

Put out some #cabbages to see how they get on... Only have one set of leaves but they've been living outside for the past few days and seem happy about it #idontevenlikecabbage anyway 😅
And you have your #squarefootgardening going on too!
Hehe yeah you got me reading up on it more and I figured it wasn't too late for the beds I hadn't planted yet! 😁 @Mikekally

#cabbage coming up this morning 😄 #gyo #brassica #croprotation #idontevenlikecabbage
Haha, love the hashtag, i was thinking the same thing! Have cabbage, butternut squash, broccoli, beans, all sorts of goodies growing that the other half doesn't like. Will be handing stuff away!
My husband has notions of making sauerkraut, we'll see how well that pans out... 😅 Otherwise I may be gifting people random cabbages this year!
I've already presented "gifts" of extra pea sprouts to half my office, slowly turning work canteen into a greenhouse 😆

Golden Acre variety... I'm not a big cabbage fan, but it seems like the done thing 😂
