#castorbeanseedpod @gjones to ensure good viability it is best to let the seed pods brown and dry on the plant.

#castorbean #castorbeanseedpod @gjones I plucked a few from mine, the seeds are still forming, they look similar to the stage yours are at. Viability is hard to determine, until they are planted, you could cut a few away to let dry inside, leave some on the plant, hope for the best, even take the cutting with the seed pods, put it in water to give them more time to develop.

I have been growing these for many years, all varieties, @gjones my husband, kids help me tend plants, and are around them, we have had no issues. The seeds have the ricin in them that is poisonous if eaten, alot of people don't understand that, and say the whole plant is poisonous. I soak the seeds in water for 24-48 hours until they puff up, then plant them where you want them to grow. They seem to grow better that way than in a pot, they grow fast!

I have not seen this variety before. Beautiful #foliage . We only have the basic green here and it grows wild. FYI, very poisonus.

@lovestogarden it's the seeds that are poisonous, The ricin in them. I've been growing this plant for years, have seen 3 different color variations...green, this deep burgandy, and one that falls in between... I have seen the green variety growing wild here, and in Tx. If you would like some seeds let me know! :)

Sure would @marlynroses it probably wouldnt get as large as it could by planting it in the ground...but it would make a lovely patio/house plant year round 😄

I did not plant this one here... but I left it to see how it would grow next to the path...loves the rain we are having because it grew 6ft in one month!

@daisy-jane @cyndi there is a seed group I am in on Facebook, Susie's seed attic... There is a fall seed swap just starting, you don't need seeds to join...I found the group early this spring. I got tons of awesome seeds!
