I've bought 5 Japanese maples over late autumn & winter which I'm yet to see in full bloom. Started seeing some slight movement in the buds the last week. It's quite exciting waiting to see what they look like in there spring summer glory! Then obviously the magic of autumn when these take on these magnificent colours😁

They are beautiful as the buds starts growing into leaves and of course the fantastic colours in autumn will be just amazing @dickturpin How tall are the ones you have bought. It doesn't like if it is exposed to strong winds

@Venkat I have a villa taranto and Seiryu(I think. No label but is an upright and had dissected leaves from what I could tell late autumn!) which are around 5ft, a Sango Kaku around 4-5ft, an orangeola and shaina around 2ft. And yes I've read they dont like wind and full sun. My garden gets alot of sun so will see how they do. They may be dug up and relocated 😥

Oh great! 4 to 5 ft would be lovely @dickturpin. Mine gets direct sun through the day till 3pm and seems to cope very well 😊

That is fantastic to hear as these are gonna be blasted by the same amount of hours probably around 10am till about 4pm there all planted around the fence one being in a corner(sango kaku) and actually I have 6 I have an orange dream too which is around 4 ft. I went a bit crazy when I started looking into the Japanese maples, I've almost become obsessed now!🤣 the Shaina may be turned into a bonsai as it's still in a pot.

But I've literally in the last 6 months become interested in the garden an stuff so I'm an absolute amateur in a gardening sense.

If you have the interest and enjoy doing it, it will be a great experience

My garden is nothing spectacular by any means! but I have to say its satisfying seeing the slow but rewarding changes that putting just a little effort in brings to the garden. I'm gonna need a bigger garden tho I think haha
