Tropical Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a genus of hardy and tender annuals, evergreen and deciduous shrubs or small trees. The tender, evergreen species such as Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, are popular conservatory or house plants in temperate climates. These plants require winter protection in these cooler regions and can be grown as pot plants. The hardy species such as H. syriacus are suitable for annual or mixed borders.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

This greenhouse variety should be planted in a greenhouse border or in 8-12 inch pots or tubs. Overwinter the plants between 7-10 degrees C. The plants, and particularly the variegated types, retain their foliage and remain colourful through the winter months if a temperature of of about 16C can be maintained and the compost is kept moist.
