@sushiwaitress - I pulled my half wrinkled one from the soil and the roots are ok. The weirdest part is the side that looks normal on top is discolored underneath and isn't as firm as the side that shrunk... I think it's done :/ #lithops

Gently squeeze the base of the plant. Is it firm? If it is, that's the baby leaves developing inside and it's not dead (just ugly). If it's rubbery or squishy == goner. The roots look ok. You could try giving it a tablespoon of water every 3-4 days and see what happens. It'll either rot or recover. 🤷‍♀️

@sushiwaitress Ok great, everything is firm aside from the upper area I mentioned so maybe there's still hope :) I'll try that, thanks!

The one on the top is half shriveled and the bottom one hasn't done anything... Not sure what I'm doing wrong #lithops

That exact same thing happened with mine- the shrivelled one died, the other is still "splitting". #lithops

Thanks @cyndi -- ok @Melissa.H how long have you had these lithops? Did they come in this pot with this soil, or were they bare-root when you got them? Can you gently brush away some of the dirt next to the shriveled one and see whether the base of the plant is soft and mushy?

I've bought lithops from greenhouses and then got home to realize the base of the plant beneath the soil was already rotting when I bought it = goner (but at least not my fault).

The little guy on the left shrunk a lot... Guessing that's probably not normal #lithops

@sushiwaitress Any ideas on this one?

I've had that happen to mine before where the new leaves are really tiny compared to the old. It happened to me when I got lithops bare-root shipped to me during the winter when they were dormant. They didn't have enough roots to absorb water or enough energy left to make a big baby. But it'll eventually recover.

Not sure whether or not the bumps on him are normal... Hoping it's not a fungus or something #lithops

@KelsiBriana @Melissa.H That bump does look a bit unusual. I haven't seen that before. Do you see any rotting around the base/roots? The other marks look like minor scuffs/scrapes that have healed. Keep an eye on it. See if there are any changes over the next week.

@sushiwaitress I didn't see any rotting, just that they were a little dry. (Just received them from a seller in FL) I'll keep a close eye on this one, thanks for the help!

Did it get shipped to you in that pot, or bare-rooted?

@sushiwaitress Bare root, is that bad? Some of the others had a few scrapes/scars and looked a little wrinkly when I got them on Friday... I haven't watered yet

Bare root is fine. Very common. Your soil mix looks great. Wait a week after potting before first watering. And then only give them at most a tablespoon of water, since this is wintertime and they're supposed to be getting moisture from their leaves. Roots generally aren't active this time of year & won't absorb much anyway.

I got my first lithops mailed to me bare root around this time of year last year, and I was so scared to water them that some died from thirst a couple months later. Your main priority should be to help them establish a good root system in their new pot, so in spring give them a tablespoon or two of water maybe every week, even if they're not quite done reabsorbing the new leaves.

They're so unpredictable. But with some frequent observation you'll start to read them and understand when they want water. I'm seeing the effects now of mistakes I made last summer, so I'm still learning too. If there's a lot of humidity in your environment that will affect the amount of water they need, so it's all about figuring out what they need in your environment.
