If I was you I would cut off the big brown leaves. I bought the identical acer a few weeks ago in same state and cut off all leaves and stems that were brown. I just looked at it yesterday and it has already grown beautiful bright red little leaves. These leaves are just sapping the plants energy & will never recover. Has plenty time before winter to regenerate new leaves. 😀
