I still don't have a clue what the name of this opuntia is.
Here's a guess from wikipedia: "Farmed nopales are most often of the species Opuntia ficus-indica or Opuntia matudae although the pads of almost all Opuntia species are edible." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nopal
I'm satisfied with 'Ficus Indica.' looks identical from my rudimentary research so that's what I'm going with! Thank you for that!

These can be rooted and grown and it was fun doing so!
I have wondered the same thing!! They look kinda flabby and dehydrated when I see them in my local market, so I've never tried rooting them.
They taste like mild green beans but yeah these will definitely root and grow! I have three of them!

Unknown variety. I bought these as shriveled up, refrigerated pads on sale for consumption. I still threw them in the pot, just not a cooking pot. Anyway, I'm glad to see new growth!

Purchased at an ethnic grocery store on sale for 99 cents a pound. Intended for human consumption, I rooted mine and now it has a future!
