Way behind where it was this time last year but getting going at last #foliagefriday #dicksoniaantarctica
#primitive #dinosnak
Alot further ahead than mine. That’s going to be stunning when they all unfurl
The leaves were about 4 feet long this day last year @vec but I suspect they will catch up quite quickly. You can almost watch it growing at the moment.
Ferns are just amazing to watch unfurl 😍

Tree fern looking a little chilly this morning. #dicksonia #snow
Looking lovely, like a ballerina in feathers
You don't need to wrap it for winter?
Winter wonderland 🥶
@lesliecole49 I have had it a few years and never have so far. I do stuff some straw in the crown but that’s it. I am just west of London here so winters pretty mild. Apparently hardy to -5c. (40F) We are approx equivalent of USDA 8b if that helps.
I had just recently read about how hardy they are. Still a bit too cold for them where I am. (7a)

Stunning. Are they hard to grow?
Hi @elleq I wouldn’t say they are difficult in the sense that people think peonie are difficult. Ideally they need a sheltered position. This can be in full shade. The more sunny it is the more you will have to water it. The only real care you need to give it is to water it and protect it in winter. I am outside London and just stuff some straw in the crown in winter but some people further north also wrap the top of the trunk. They tend to be cheapest online. I got mine at the Palm Tree Company
@elleq ... contd. one final point is buy it at the size you want as it only grows something like an inch a year. I feed mine twice a year - when the fronds start unfurling and in early June.
Wow, stunning growth in very little time, impressive plant.

Probably near the end of the “reaching for the sky” phase. Fronds about 5ft long - all in the last month #foliagefriday 24th May 2019

Back from hols to find the tree fern liked the heat in my absence - leaves about 8ft long - was feeding once a week - perhaps too much?
Tree fern seems to be enjoying monsoon season here in North Hampshire
