Recently moved to a new house with lots of unknown plants. New to gardening but keen to learn. Our soil is very wet and sandy so I have tried to find

Dahlia

Does anyone know what this black stuff is on my dahlias? There are ants on there too but I haven't noticed them before

@vicky1987 if you want to protect the bees, then use a mild dilution of washing up liquid in a sprayer rather than an insecticide. It does the job and the bees won't be harmed or ladybirds etc. 🐝🌷🌺

@vicky1987 they do damage the plant as they suck all the sap and nutrients out of the plant that will leave you with no flowers or lush leaves. Ants like them because they are sweet to eat after. 😳😳
