2016 is the first year I have been able to do any gardening. I live in southwestern Ohio, USA. I love roses, orchids, toad lilies...everything 😁

My poor pineapple plant. Yesterday we got thunderstorms with hail. Then got cold and windy. We might even get a little snow. Got it back inside. But it doesn't look to good.

@naturelover2188 I heard it takes about 3 years if you plant the top. I bought this one last year. I had a small pineapple last year. I cut the top off it and planted it.

That's awesome , so after the fruit matures the plant dies?

@naturelover2188 I don't think they die after you get a pineapple. Mine just got caught up in the normal weird ohio weather. It was 70 degrees then dropped down to 30s. We even had a little snow last night

@ambitiouswolf @naturelover2188 after the fist year of growth you should have a pineapple start on the plant the next season. I think your battered baby will be okay. They are tough to kill, although I am in a hot climate zone 9. A trick I use to get the fruit to start is to wedge some spanish moss in the top center to generate some heat to get the fruit to start.

Update on the pineapple. It as a nice place inside for a least a month now. We have had several days of hard frost this week.

I was just looking at the pic of the pineapple when I got it. I didn't realize how much it has grown since then. Especially the green top of the pineapple.

@gjones. I'm not sure. This is my first time having a pineapple plant. I know you only get 1 pineapple a year from it.

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to move the pineapple to its new home. The poor thing was so crowded in that little pot that I had to cut the pot to get it out. Had to cut all the drain holes to free the roots. I hope it will like it's new home.

You actually have a pineapple growing from it! How did you start it? My stepmom has cut the tops of pineapples for years and they are just big plants...or is this a real pineapple plant. ..how exciting :-)

@Medicalmama. I bought it like that. I read that if you start one from a pineapple top it can take up to 3 year to get a pineapple. It may depend on sun amount also.

I have a feeling my mom's might not get enough sun but she also did not put it in dirt until a couple months ago...it grew 3 feet tall in water

@Medicalmama. Well it will be interesting to see how it does since it is in dirt now.

Found this plant at my Wal mart. Only one. Think it was a return because we never had them at my Wal mart. But my husband loves pineapple so I thought it might be fun to see how the plant does.

When it is ready to eat, twist off the top and let it dry for a couple of days. Then plant it. Do ot all again!
