OK I'm changing my tune. I did a bunch of reading on tree peonies today and I don't think this is one. It's herbaceous but blooms way earlier than any of my other peonies. this was supposed to be a tree peony way back when I bought it but somewhere along the line something went awry. This peony dies back to the ground each year. It's much sturdier than all my other peonies and doesn't need a ring.
Help me identify this plant. Tree peony but don't recall the variety. Have had it 15 years or so.
