Two of the asparagus plants I put in to the specially built raised bed seem to have survived. They look so different to each other! ?! One looks thin and spindly with a feathery leaf on top, whereas the other looks like an asparagus shoot !?! I've been told that you shouldn't try cropping asparagus until the plants have been in for 2 years, otherwise you might damage the plants ability to reproduce stems for next year.

I've started asparagus this year too. It's weird - the crowns look dead but then all of a sudden a couple of shoots!!!

@Emily272 Exactly the same! Thought I'd killed them tbh. Apparently you are meant to ridge them up like potatoes
