Time for a update. Been here for 5 years now so the garden is no longer brand new. It’s still windy, it’s still stony and I still have so many plans.

Acanthus mollis

My friend Bryn brought a good root of this not long after we moved in so this is it’s 5th and best year. It’s special since I gave him his original plant from my old London garden! #plantsfromfriends

Such a lot of promise in the garden now including this #acanthus but this one is such a great architectural plant even when it isn’t flowering #foliagefriday

Yes, I gave a root to Bryn and after we moved he brought a root to me. Son of acanthus Wrottesley! @brisbets about 15 spikes on it right now.

My #bearsbreeches have survived so far, they’re usually mush by now! They came back after the first, early, heavy frost in October and we haven’t had much since then - and no snow at all! #acanthus #foliagefriday

The huge Acanthus are fading fast but they are still a great architectural feature in the border #acanthus #bearsbreeches #fadedbeauty

Someone told me they don't like the soil too rich @jeatacake. This is the prodgeny of one from my old garden. After I moved a friend turned up with it - I have given him one from my original plant!

The soil here is pretty rich being clay, which is normally a good thing, but I guess not always! 😕

Soil here is clay too Jeff, so maybe it will come. Foliage is fab too!

How long have you had it @Jasonsparkes1, I was kind of surprised this flowered this year. Very pleased though, I had a lovely one in my old garden and gave some to a friend, he turned up here last autumn with a piece from his plant. Full circle!

@Jasonsparkes1, my old garden was very dry and the soil not very rich so maybe. This garden is very different - only time will tell!
