Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris. The climbing hydrangea. Perfect for a shady fence or wall. A bit slow to get started but it will eventually romp along a wall or fence, clinging by aerial, adventitious roots.
I can't wait for mine to get going @mikethegardener #impatient and can't see much self clinging either although it does have buds on this year and didn't last year
@slj @titchyfra @rusty hi there, to answer the following points. Probably too shady to grow under a tree as needs some light. Roots aren't known to be as troublesome as ivy roots, but they are slow to cling, but once new growth appears the clinging/adventitious roots will appear. Good luck all😊😊
@mikethegardener I have one in the back garden that was here when we moved in. It's too far from the fence and so does not climb! I'd like to move it to the front garden. We've been here over 10 years and so I've no idea actually how old the plant is. Do you think I can move it?

Would you consider the roots to be as damaging as ivy? @mikethegardener

Good to know they're a slow starter. I was starting to wonder....there's that patience part of gardening again for me
Stunning mines still in bud as yet :)
Do you think this would grow over an arbour, under a fairly thick tree canopy in a woodland? There is only light there when the trees have no leaves.
I've just brought one of these 😀never knew of a climbing hydrangea 😍
I just bought one yesterday dying to see it flower 😍

Thanks @mikethegardener I'll keep an eye out for them 👀
