@drnicko I have had these pieces of ginger on my windowsill for months & would like to grow ginger plants. There's a lot of buds so can I cut up this piece & plant multiples. What kind of compost and how deep to plant please?

@angipangi cut off any of the dried up bits, there'll go mouldy. Make sure each but you plant has a growing tip, looks like you've got loads or just plant the whole lump. I use a well drained homemade soil made from pine bark, peat, perlite and a special cat litter (unused). Keep warm and well watered until you get some growth and then can go outside. Will need a big pot as the rhizome gets bigger. You can actually eat it as well! 😃😃

@angipangi place the rhizome flat with most buried but some still at the surface. Gingers don't like being completely covered. Say bury 3/4 👍

@drnicko Thanks for comprehensive instructions. 1 more question how deep to plant. Do I cover the buds or just leave them above compost.

@angipangi keep the growing points just above, they'll once the rhizome starts being warm/wet they will grow, you'll also get more from under the soil. The more "tropical" you make the rhizome feel the quicker it will grow, so if you have heat mat put pot on that. 😃
